Sylvia Townsend Warner (1893–1978) was a British writer. Her debut novel, Lolly Willowes, was published in 1926 and met with considerable success; her second novel, Mr. Fortune’s Maggot, followed in 1927. During her long literary career, she published numerous works and contributed to The New Yorker. From 1930, she lived with the poet Valentine Ackland. During the Spanish Civil War, Warner supported the Red Cross and was for a time a member of the Communist Party.
