Sylvia Earle is an American oceanographer and environmental activist dedicated to protecting the oceans. She served as chief scientist of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and advised NASA. In 1995, she began working as a researcher for the National Geographic Society. Earle led more than 60 ocean expeditions and spent over 7,000 hours underwater.
