Swantje Baumgart

Swantje Baumgart was born in Berlin in 1968 and grew up in a suburb of Cologne. She studied literary studies and history and worked as a freelance literary translator from English, French, and Spanish. Her first books were published by her father, Dieter J. Baumgart, through his independent press. In 2000, she founded her own publishing house, edition ginga; she discovered the name during a trip to Australia in 1999. She also published poems and short stories in anthologies, including those issued by Heyne and ferber-verlag köln.
