Susanne Schaup

Susanne Schaup (born 1940 in Vienna) studied English, American and German literature in Vienna, the United States and Salzburg, where she earned a doctorate with a dissertation on the Irish poet W. B. Yeats. From 1968 to 1970, she taught German at Westfield College, University of London. She subsequently worked in Munich as a publishing editor and as a freelance author and translator. She contributed to the German edition of Yeats’s collected works and translated writings by authors including Eudora Welty, Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson. Thoreau’s work formed a particular focus of her translations, including “Leben aus den Wurzeln” and selections from his journals. Schaup also published books of her own, including “Diese Kinder können nicht warten,” “Sophia – Das Weibliche in Gott” and “Noch nie hab ich so gern gelebt.”
