Susanne Koelbl is a German journalist and author. After completing journalistic training in Munich, she worked as a writer for the Süddeutsche Zeitung magazine and joined Der Spiegel in 1991. As a foreign correspondent, she reported from the Balkans, Central Asia and the Middle East, including Syria, Iran, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Her reporting received several awards, including the Reemtsma Liberty Award. In 2007, she co-authored the book »Geliebtes, dunkles Land. Menschen und Mächte in Afghanistan« with Olaf Ihlau. She received the ITB BuchAward for »Zwölf Wochen in Riad«.
