Susan Zimmermann

Susan Zimmermann is a historian and professor at Central European University in Vienna. Her research focuses on international social movements and the history of social policy and labor. Her other areas of interest include women trade unionists and the politics of women’s labor in state-socialist Hungary, as well as the relationships between social movements, international institutions, gender, class, and global inequality. From 2020 to 2025, she led the European Research Council–funded project “ZARAH: Women’s labour activism in Eastern Europe and transnationally, from the age of empires to the late 20th century.”
