Steven Barnes, born in California, published more than thirty novels in the science-fiction, horror, and thriller genres, as well as numerous short stories. He also wrote for film and television, including several episodes of *The Outer Limits*, *The Twilight Zone*, and *Stargate SG-1*. One of his *Outer Limits* episodes received an Emmy Award. His novella *The Locusts* was nominated for a Hugo Award. In addition to writing, Barnes attained master-level rank in several martial arts.
