Stephen R. Covey (1932–2012) was an American author, educator, and consultant on leadership and organizational development. He earned an MBA from Harvard University and a doctorate from Brigham Young University, where he taught organizational behavior and business management. Covey co-founded and served as vice chairman of FranklinCovey, a consulting and training company. He was best known for the international bestseller *The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People*. His other books include *The 8th Habit* and *The 3rd Alternative*. Time magazine included him among its 25 Most Influential Americans. Covey was the father of nine children and grandfather of 55 grandchildren.
