Stefan Ulrich, born in 1963 in Starnberg, studied law and completed his legal traineeship before joining the Süddeutsche Zeitung. From 2005 to 2009, he worked as the newspaper’s correspondent in Rome, followed by a posting in Paris from 2009 to 2013. He has written novels, Italian crime fiction and travel guides, including Quattro Stagioni, Arrivederci Roma, Die Morde von Morcone and In Schönheit sterben. Quattro Stagioni was adapted for television by ARD. His journalistic and literary work has received awards including the German-Italian Journalism Prize and the Theodor Wolff Prize.
