Stefan Bollmann (born 1958) studied literature, history and philosophy and received a doctorate with a thesis on Thomas Mann. In 1998, he moved from university teaching into editorial work at trade publishers. As an author and editor, he published numerous books, including Frauen, die lesen, sind gefährlich, Frauen, die schreiben, leben gefährlich and Frauen, die denken, sind gefährlich. His other subjects include the history of reading and Goethe, explored in works such as Warum ein Leben ohne Goethe sinnlos ist and Der Atem der Welt. According to publisher information, his books were translated into 16 languages and sold nearly half a million copies.
