Augustine of Hippo (354–430), also known as Saint Augustine, was a theologian and philosopher of Berber origin and bishop of Hippo Regius in North Africa. He is regarded as one of the most important Church Fathers of the Latin Church and significantly influenced Western philosophy and Christianity. After an early interest in Manichaeism and Neoplatonism, he converted to Christianity and was baptized in 386. His major works include *Confessions*, *The City of God*, *On Christian Doctrine*, and *On the Trinity*.
