Seishi Yokomizo (1902–1981) was a Japanese crime writer. Born in Kobe, he read numerous detective stories as a boy before beginning to write himself. His series featuring detective Kosuke Kindaichi comprises 77 books. The Honjin Murders, regarded as the first volume in the series, won Japan’s first prize for crime writers. His other well-known works include The Gokumon Island Murders, The Village of Eight Graves, and The Inugami Curse.
