Sabina Becker (born 1961 in Saarbrücken) studied sociology, modern German literature, comparative literature and Hispanic studies at Saarland University. She received her doctorate there in 1992 with a dissertation on modern metropolitan literature and completed her habilitation in 1999 with a study of the aesthetics and literary theory of the New Objectivity. From 1992 to 2000, she worked as a research associate at Saarland University; from 2002 to 2004, she held a professorial substitute position at the University of Wuppertal. In 2004, she was appointed professor of modern German literary history at the University of Freiburg. Her research focuses on the literary and cultural history of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
