Rupert Sheldrake (born 1942) studied natural sciences and philosophy at Cambridge and Harvard. He received a doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Cambridge in 1967. He subsequently taught at Clare College, Cambridge, where he served as director of research in biochemistry and cell biology until 1973. His research included plant development and cellular ageing. Sheldrake became known for his theory of morphic, or morphogenetic, fields, which he presented as the basis of a memory inherent in nature. His books include *The Memory of Nature*, *The Sense of Being Stared At* and *The Science Delusion*.
