Rumer Godden (1907–1998), born Margaret Rumer Haynes Dixon in Sussex, was an English writer. She spent her childhood and youth between England and India. For a time, she lived on a farm in the mountains of Kashmir and ran a ballet school in Calcutta. These experiences influenced her work: most of her more than sixty novels are set in India, and several were adapted into films.
