Rudolf Steiner (1861–1925) was an Austrian philosopher, writer and lecturer. He studied mathematics, natural sciences and engineering at the Vienna University of Technology and received a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Rostock. From 1882, he edited Goethe’s scientific writings and later worked, among other places, at the Goethe and Schiller Archives in Weimar. After working with the Theosophical Society, he helped establish the Anthroposophical Society in 1912/13. His anthroposophy combined philosophical and spiritual approaches and influenced several fields of practical life. Steiner initiated Waldorf education and contributed impulses to biodynamic agriculture. He was also involved in the design of the Goetheanum in Dornach and gave numerous lectures across Europe. He died in 1925 in Dornach, Switzerland.
