Rudolf Burger (born 1938 in Vienna) studied technical physics at TU Wien and received his doctorate in 1965. He first worked as an assistant in applied physics at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Solid-State Physics, and later at the Battelle Institute in Frankfurt am Main and in the planning staff of Germany’s Federal Ministry of Research and Technology in Bonn. He completed his habilitation in 1979. In 1987 he became Professor of Philosophy at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, serving as its rector from 1995 to 1999. He received the State Prize for Cultural Journalism in 2000. His publications include Ptolemäische Vermutungen, Re-Theologisierung der Politik? and Im Namen der Geschichte.
