Rudolf Arnheim

Rudolf Arnheim (1904–2007) was an art and media theorist. In the early 1930s, he published articles in periodicals including Die Weltbühne. His 1932 book “Film as Art” became a classic of film theory. After emigrating, Arnheim taught at several universities in the United States and focused particularly on perception and media theory. Another major work was “Radio as Sound,” and his writings examined the aesthetic and perceptual characteristics of photography, radio, and film.
