Ross Macdonald (1915–1983) was an American crime writer and one of the notable authors in the genre during the 20th century. His crime novels often reflected American society. Macdonald served as president of the Mystery Writers of America. He received the Silver Dagger Award in 1964 and the Gold Dagger Award in 1965.
