Rolf Wiggershaus was born in Wuppertal in 1944. He studied philosophy, sociology and German literature in Tübingen and Frankfurt am Main, earning his doctorate in 1974. From the 1970s onward, he worked as a philosopher, writer and lecturer. He became particularly known for his comprehensive study of the history of the Frankfurt School, which was translated into several languages. He also wrote books on Theodor W. Adorno, Ludwig Wittgenstein and Jürgen Habermas.
