Rolf Sachsse (born 1949 in Bonn) trained as a photographer at Schmölz + Huth in Cologne and worked as an architectural, industrial, and documentary photographer. Alongside this work, he studied art history, communication research, and literary studies or German studies in Munich and Bonn; in 1983 he received a doctorate for a thesis on the history of photography. Sachsse worked as a photographer, artist, author, and curator. From 2004 to 2017, he was Professor of Design History and Design Theory at the Saar University of Fine Arts in Saarbrücken, where he also served as Pro-Rector for Research and Teaching from 2013 to 2017. He published extensively on photography, design, architecture, and sound art.
