Rolf-Dietrich Keil was a German Slavist and university lecturer. After being a prisoner of war in the Soviet Union from 1945 to 1950, he studied Slavic studies in Bonn and received a doctorate in 1954. In 1955, he accompanied Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer as an interpreter on his trip to Moscow. From 1955 to 1962, Keil was a lecturer at the University of Hamburg; from 1962 to 1974, he headed the Eastern Languages Division of the Bundeswehr Language School. From 1974 to 1988, he was a professor of Russian-language teaching methodology at the University of Bonn. Keil co-founded the German Pushkin Society and served as its chairman from 1987 to 2003.
