Rolf Dieter Brinkmann (1940–1975) was a German writer and poet. Born in Vechta, he began a bookselling apprenticeship in Essen in 1959 and later studied education before working as a freelance writer. In the 1960s, he was a major figure in German pop and underground poetry. His notable works include the poetry collection “Westwärts 1 & 2” and “Rom, Blicke,” a compilation of letters, notes, newspaper clippings, and photographs resulting from his stay in Rome in 1972. Brinkmann received the Petrarca Prize in 1975. He died in London that same year.
