Richard Wurmbrand (1909–2001) was a Romanian Jew and evangelical pastor. Because of his Christian faith, he was persecuted by Romania’s communist regime and spent a total of 14 years in various prisons, including several years in solitary confinement. After being ransomed and released to the West, he founded the Aid to the Martyr Church, an organization that supported persecuted Christians in communist countries.
