Richard J. Evans, born in 1947, is a British historian. He was Professor of Modern History at the University of Cambridge from 1998 to 2008 and Regius Professor of History there from 2008 to 2014. Evans has published extensively on German history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and on National Socialism. His honors include the Wolfson Literary Award for History and the Medal for Art and Science of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. In 2012, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. His works include *The European Century: 1815–1914*, *The Third Reich and Conspiracy Theories*, and *Death in Hamburg: Society and Politics in the Cholera Years, 1830–1910*.
