Richard C. Schwartz, Ph.D., is a psychologist, author, and the founder of the Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapeutic model. He developed this evidence-based approach to working with parts of the personality in the late 1990s. Schwartz founded the IFS Institute and published several books; he is regarded as an international bestselling author. During his academic career, he taught and conducted research at institutions including Harvard Medical School, the University of Illinois, and Northwestern University in Chicago.
