Author · 20 books

Ricarda Huch (1864–1947) was a German writer, poet, historian, and philosopher. She studied and earned her doctorate in Zurich, becoming one of the first women in the German-speaking world to receive a doctorate. She initially worked as a librarian and teacher before establishing herself as an author. Huch wrote novels, poetry, plays, and historical works; her notable publications include The Romantics (1899/1902), an important contribution to the rediscovery of the Romantic movement. In 1926, she became the first woman elected to the Prussian Academy of Arts, resigning in protest against its coordination under National Socialism in 1933. Her later work addressed periods of historical upheaval and the German resistance to National Socialism.
