Regina Scheer, born in Berlin in 1950, studied theatre and cultural studies at Humboldt University of Berlin. From 1972 to 1976 she worked as an editor for the magazine Forum, and from 1980 to 1990 for the literary journal Temperamente. She later worked as a freelance author, publicist and editor, and contributed to exhibitions, films and anthologies. She published several books on German-Jewish history, including Im Schatten der Sterne (2004) and Wir sind die Liebermanns (2006). Her debut novel, Machandel, was published in 2014 and received the Mara-Cassens Prize. In 2023, she was awarded the Leipzig Book Fair Prize for Bittere Brunnen.
