Raymond Queneau

Raymond Queneau (1903–1976) was a French writer whose extensive and varied work encompassed several literary forms. Born in Le Havre, he died in Paris. From 1924 to 1929 he was part of the Surrealist group, and from 1961 he belonged to the avant-garde literary group Oulipo. In 1938 he became an editor at Gallimard. His notable novels include *Saint Glinglin* (1948) and *Zazie in the Metro* (1958), which brought him wider recognition, especially after its film adaptation by Louis Malle.
