Ralf Nestmeyer (born 1964 in Nuremberg) studied history and philosophy. He began working as a freelance author, travel journalist and cultural journalist in 1995. He has written numerous travel guides, particularly on French regions, as well as nonfiction books, texts for illustrated volumes and crime novels, including *Roter Lavendel* and *Die Toten vom Mont Ventoux*. He has also edited literary anthologies on Provence and Sicily. His essays, reports and reviews have appeared in publications including Die Zeit, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, die taz and DAMALS, as well as on Bavarian Radio.
