Rainer Wekwerth was born in January 1959 in Esslingen am Neckar, Germany. His first book, the children’s novel *Emilys wundersame Reise ins Land der Träume*, was published in 1996. He subsequently wrote further children’s books as well as fantasy and thriller novels, some of them under the pseudonyms David Kenlock and Jonathan Abendrot. Among his best-known works is the multi-award-winning *Labyrinth* trilogy, which earned him a place on the SPIEGEL bestseller list. His awards include the Segeberger Feder, the Ulmer Unke, and the Goldene Leslie, the youth literature prize of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. His books have been translated into several languages.
