Rainer Metzger

Rainer Metzger is a German art historian and author. He studied art history, history and German literature in Munich and received his doctorate in 1994 with a dissertation on the artist Dan Graham. He subsequently worked as an art critic for the Vienna daily Der Standard and published numerous books and essays on art history, including works on Vincent van Gogh, Marc Chagall and Gustav Klimt. From 2004 onward, he taught art history at the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe. He also curated exhibitions, including projects for Kunsthalle Krems and Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier.
