Rafael Sabatini

Rafael Sabatini (1875–1950) was an author of historical fiction, born in Italy. He achieved international recognition with works including the novel *Captain Blood*, whose film adaptation helped launch Errol Flynn’s career. Sabatini spoke at least seven languages, enabling him to consult original sources for his writing. He died in Switzerland in 1950.
