Rachel Khong grew up in Southern California and earned degrees from Yale University and the University of Florida. From 2011 to 2016, she worked at Lucky Peach magazine, first as managing editor and later as editor in chief. Her writing appeared in publications including the New York Times Book Review, The Guardian, The Cut, The Paris Review, Joyland, American Short Fiction, The Believer, and the San Francisco Chronicle. In 2018, she founded The Ruby in San Francisco, a workspace and events venue for women writers and nonbinary artists.
