Rachel Hanan

Rachel Hanan was born in 1929. As a teenager, she survived four concentration camps, the bombing of a prisoner transport, and a death march. She was liberated by the Red Army on 9 May 1945. In 1947, she emigrated to Israel, then still known as Palestine. She worked for more than 30 years as a social worker in disadvantaged areas of Haifa and later headed a large welfare organization. She married in 1949 and had two sons.
