Rachel Cusk was born in Canada in 1967, spent most of her childhood in Los Angeles, and moved to the United Kingdom with her family at the age of nine. She studied English at Oxford and later worked for a literary agency. Cusk has published eight novels and three works of nonfiction, including the Outline trilogy and the autobiographical books Life’s Work and Aftermath. Her work has received numerous honors, including the Whitbread First Novel Award, the Somerset Maugham Award, and the Malaparte Prize. She is a Guggenheim Fellow and a Chevalier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
