Rachel Bespaloff

Rachel Bespaloff (1895–1949) was born in Bulgaria into a Ukrainian-Jewish family and grew up in Paris. There, she maintained close friendships and intellectual ties with Leo Shestov and Jean Wahl. In 1942, she fled the Nazis for the United States; she died by suicide in 1949. Her text »The Iliad« has been translated into English and Italian.
