Pip Williams was born in London and grew up in Sydney. She is a social scientist and author. In addition to a travel memoir, she has published articles, book reviews, flash fiction and poetry. Her fascination with language and research in the archives of the Oxford English Dictionary inspired her debut novel, *The Dictionary of Lost Words*, which became a number-one bestseller in Australia and was shortlisted for the Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction. Her novel *The Bookbinder of Jericho* also reached number one on the Australian bestseller list.
