Pia Klemp

Pia Klemp (born 1983) is a writer and captain. She studied biology and worked for several years as a diving instructor in Indonesia. From 2012 onward, she worked for the marine conservation organization Sea Shepherd and on civilian rescue missions in the Mediterranean. Klemp was also part of the collective that equipped the ship Louise Michel for civilian search-and-rescue operations. In 2019, she received the Clara Zetkin Women’s Prize. Together with the crew of the rescue ship Iuventa, she was awarded the Paul Grüninger Prize in 2019 and Amnesty International Germany’s Human Rights Award in 2020. Her publications include the novels Lass uns mit den Toten tanzen (2019) and Entlarvung (2021).
