Philipp Schaaf

Philipp Schaaf was born in Leipzig in 1975 and grew up in the countryside, where his father worked as a shepherd. After training as an insulation installer, he began his military service with the German Bundeswehr in 1996. In 2001, following a demanding selection process, he became a commando soldier with the Bundeswehr’s Special Forces Command. He qualified, among other things, as a military mountain leader, breacher and commando medic, and took part in operations in Afghanistan and Africa. He later worked in his company’s planning and training team and as a liaison officer with the Bundeswehr Operations Command. He received several awards for his service.
