Philip Ardagh wrote more than 50 books for children and young readers, including the Eddie Dickens series, which won the Roald Dahl Funny Prize. His works were translated into numerous languages. Before becoming a writer, Ardagh worked as a copywriter, a hospital cleaner, a librarian and a reader for blind people. His book Schlimmes Ende received the German Youth Literature Prize and the LUCHS award. He was also known for being over two metres tall and for his distinctive bushy beard.
