Petra Oelker (born 1947) worked as a journalist and wrote nonfiction and biographies. Her novel “Tod am Zollhaus” was the first of eleven historical crime novels featuring Rosina, an itinerant actress. Her other novels include the contemporary-set works “Der Klosterwald,” “Die kleine Madonna,” “Tod auf dem Jakobsweg,” and “Emmas Reise,” as well as “Die Brücke zwischen den Welten,” set in Constantinople. She also wrote “Das klare Sommerlicht des Nordens” and “Das Haus am Gänsemarkt,” about a Hanseatic merchant family during the French occupation of Hamburg.
