Petra Morsbach was born in Zurich in 1956 and studied philology and theatre direction in Munich and Saint Petersburg. She then worked for ten years as a dramaturge and theatre director before turning to freelance writing in 1993. Her novels include *Plötzlich ist es Abend*, *Opernroman*, *Gottesdiener*, *Justizpalast* and *Dichterliebe*. She has also published essays, including *Der Elefant im Zimmer*. Her literary work has received numerous grants and awards, including the Jean Paul Prize, the Roswitha Literature Prize of the city of Bad Gandersheim, and the Wilhelm Raabe Prize in 2017.
