Petr Kropotkin (1842–1921) was a Russian geographer, revolutionary, and one of the leading theorists of anarchism. Arrested for political reasons in 1874, he escaped to England in 1876. He returned to Russia after the Revolution of 1917. In 1901, he was invited by the Lowell Institute in Boston to give a series of lectures on Russian literature. Kropotkin died near Moscow in 1921.
