Born in 1943, Peter Watson studied at the universities of Durham, London and Rome. He was deputy editor of New Science, worked for four years at the Sunday Times, and served as the Times’s New York correspondent. He also wrote for publications including the Observer, the New York Times, Punch and the Spectator. From 1997 to 2007, he taught at the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research at the University of Cambridge. He published more than a dozen books, including The Medusa Smile (2001), Ideas (2006) and The German Genius (2010).
