Peter Singer (born 1946) is an Australian philosopher and ethicist. He taught at institutions including Oxford, New York, and Melbourne, and in 1999 was appointed Professor of Bioethics at Princeton University. His best-known works include *Animal Liberation*, *Practical Ethics*, *The Life You Can Save*, and *Effective Altruism*. Singer is regarded as an influential figure in the animal-rights movement and in effective altruism. Following the publication of *The Life You Can Save*, he founded the organization of the same name, which promotes effective approaches to combating global poverty.
