Peter Schnyder (born 1967) studied in Zurich, Göttingen, Berlin, and Cambridge. He became a professor of modern German literature at the University of Neuchâtel. His research focuses include German literature from the seventeenth to the twentieth century in a European context, aesthetics and politics, and the relationship between literature and science. His publications include The Magic of Rhetoric: Poetry, Philosophy, and Politics in Friedrich Schlegel’s Early Work (1999) and, co-edited with Michael Gamper, Collective Ghosts: The Mass, the Spirit of the Age, and Other Imponderable Bodies (2006).
