Peter Longerich

Born in 1955, Peter Longerich is a modern historian known for his work on National Socialism and German contemporary history. He was a professor of modern history at Royal Holloway, University of London, where he founded the Holocaust Research Centre. From 2013 to 2018, he taught at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich. Longerich was one of two spokespeople for the German Bundestag’s first independent panel of experts on antisemitism and co-author of the concept for the Munich Documentation Centre for the History of National Socialism. His major works include “The Politics of Destruction” (1998), “We Knew Nothing!” (2006), biographies of Heinrich Himmler (2008), Joseph Goebbels (2010) and Adolf Hitler (2015), and “Antisemitism: A German History” (2021).
