Peter Handke, born in 1942 in Griffen, Carinthia, is an Austrian writer, playwright and translator. After studying law in Graz, he left university before completing his degree and published his first novel, The Hornets, in 1966. That same year, his play Offending the Audience premiered in Frankfurt am Main. His notable works include The Goalie’s Anxiety at the Penalty Kick, A Sorrow Beyond Dreams, The Left-Handed Woman, My Year in the No-Man’s-Bay and The Fruit Thief. Handke also translated works from Greek, French and American literature. He received numerous awards for his writing, including the 2019 Nobel Prize in Literature.
