Peter Berling

Peter Berling (1934–2017) was a German film producer, actor and author. After studying architecture and art, and working as a graphic designer, tour guide, concert organizer and music publisher, he began producing films in 1959. He worked with directors including Klaus Lemke, Werner Schroeter and Rainer Werner Fassbinder, and appeared as a character actor in more than 100 films, including productions by Werner Herzog, Jean-Jacques Annaud, Martin Scorsese and Volker Schlöndorff. From 1989 onward, Berling wrote historical novels. He became particularly known for his cycle »The Children of the Grail«, which was translated into numerous languages. He also portrayed a range of fictional characters in more than 100 interviews for Alexander Kluge’s series »facts & fakes«. His autobiographical novel »Hazard & Lieblos« was published in 2011.
